Bill on Regulation of Turnover of Medical Cannabis Registered in the Verkhovna Rada

On December 29, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine registered a draft law on amending the legislation in terms of regulating the use of hemp for medical purposes, scientific and industrial activities.
Currently in Ukraine, several million people are undergoing procedures for treatment of cancer, gastrointestinal diseases, epilepsy, glaucoma, Alzheimer's disease, PTSD and various mental disorders. Scientists have strong evidence that their suffering could be lightened or reduced by cannabis-based medication.
Thus, hemp usage on solely prescription basis has already been legalized in 14 countries of the world, with partial or complete authorization in 32 states, including the USA, almost all Latin American countries and most of the European countries.
On December 24, MPs informed the public about the initiation of a bill registration procedure related to the legalization of medical cannabis, and on December 29, it was registered in the Verkhovna Rada. The document is now submitted for review.
Proper regulation of medical cannabis circulation could ensure:
- palliative care for incurable diseases;
- effective therapy for millions of severely ill Ukrainians, practically without side effects;
- conducting scientific research on the use of hemp for the treatment of various diseases.
More about the prospects for regulating medical cannabis on a legislative level will be discussed on May 13 at the specialized event – Medical Cannabis Kyiv Conference.
